Meditation and Flower Essences for Higher Awareness
June 30th, 2007
Meditation and flower essences are excellent complementary methods for self-improvement. Both have been the subject of numerous clinical studies for reducing stress and stress-related illnesses. Here are some documented findings about the benefits of meditation:
In one study comparing 2 groups–meditators and non-meditators–the meditators were more independent, self-confident, empathetic, spontaneous, and also less anxious, neurotic, and fearful of death, as documented in the May, 1991, issue of The Atlantic Monthly.
Studies at the University of Massachusetts found that 20 out of 22 anxiety-prone people showed a 60% improvement in anxiety levels following an eight week meditation course.
Also, in the September, 1995, issue of Health Magazine, a study of women with severe PMS showed a 58% improvement in their symptoms after 5 months of daily meditative practice.
What is meditation? It is a form of one-pointed concentration on uplifting qualities such as love, light, peace, joy, wisdom, calmness, power, or pure vibration. When you can concentrate with absolute, focused attention, you become that upon which you concentrate.
It is said that meditation happens when the mind is still and the heart is open.
Meditation is a process of remembering who and what you really are–a perfect expression of perfect qualities. The Sanskrit word for this divine remembrance is smritti.
Flower essences, similarly, may be called “bottled meditation” (although they do not replace the actual experience of meditating). They too help us to remember who we really are. Since the essences work by stimulating our positive qualities, such as love, light, peace, joy, wisdom, calmness, power, or pure vibration–it follows that we can only remember something we already know.
With a daily practice of meditation and a flower essence regimen when you feel it is beneficial, in time you will find yourself being transformed–not merely into a person with less stress, but into someone who embodies the purest qualities of these essences.
Unselfishness, in today’s culture, is a somewhat misunderstood quality. People often tend to think they should meet their own needs first and then give what’s left of themselves, if anything, to others.
This “peachy” tree is said to originate in China. Blossoming in the early spring in clusters of delicate pink flowers, it produces a gentle-tasting, soft-skinned fruit. Peach trees are sensitive to frost, much as the quality of unselfishness is resistant to contractive energies.
Recently, I had the good fortune to meet Joseph, a fine example of a person who is strong in the qualities of this essence. A self-employed car mechanic specializing in VWs for nearly 40 years, he said, rather matter-of-factly, that people give him cars as gifts—good ones, in good condition. Why? Because he’s such a giving person, and people respond to his gentle magnetism.

If we already are perfect, then, why are we still stuck with suffering in this world? Because we need to access that perfection. This is what flower essences can help us to achieve.

Strawberry helps to restore the sense of dignity that animals exhibit so majestically in their natural habitat. In our homes and in our care, they deserve the best we can give to them.
“I have an 18-year old female who just 2 weeks ago lost her life-time companion (male cat) who had to be put down. I have been treating her for almost 2 years with herbs for renal failure and she’s doing well.
Here is a suggested flower essence program:
One of my cat clients, whom we’ll call Fluff, lives in a multi-cat home. His closest feline friend passed away two weeks ago, and he seemed to be hit the hardest with a sense of loss of all the cats. The first few days, Fluff did fine.
In essence form, Pear is for peacefulness and emergency support. Clearly, Fluff’s emotional nature was in crisis and his natural play instincts had been dampened. His owner applied the tincture to his coat and put a few drops in his morning drinking water.
